Jon Kabat-Zinn, founding Director of the Stress Reduction Clinic and the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, defines Mindfulness this way:

“Paying attention in a particular way:  on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.”

Melissa introduces basic concepts of Mindfulness Meditation to participants and then begins providing guided meditations that incorporate the Mindfulness practice.  The information builds week by week, as do the guided meditations.  The practice involves becoming aware of the breath and bodily sensations and non-judgmentally acknowledging thoughts and feelings as they occur.  Guided meditations tend to start out gradually and increase in time to about 20-25 minutes.  Melissa’s ultimate goal is to teach participants stress reduction tools they can use their entire lives and not be dependent on any one person guiding them.  She listens to her clients’ needs and together with them develops the right program for them.
